What is Reflexology? #01

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the technique of applying gentle pressure to the reflexes on the feet in order to bring about a state of deep relaxation, stimulate the body’s own healing processes and help a person to return to a state of balance and well being.

The feet are a mirror of the organs and parts of the body; during a reflexology session reflexes or points are stimulated, encouraging the opening of neural pathways and allowing the body to return to its’ natural rhythm. By gently stimulating these reflexes I can detect areas of the body that are out of balance and by working them help to restore, rebalance and revitalize your natural equilibrium.

How can Reflexology help you?

Reflexology is a natural and non-invasive treatment and when used regularly it can help to reduce stress and induce deep relaxation.

Reflexology can also help to increase energy levels, improve circulation and facilitate the elimination of toxins from the body.

Reflexology can help with many different conditions including:

• Anxiety and stress disorders
• Arthritis
• Asthma and respiratory problems
• Back and shoulder pain
• Fatigue and insomnia
• Constipation & IBS
• Depression
• Diabetes
• Dermatitis and eczema
• Headaches and migraine
• Sinusitis and allergies
• Tinnitus
• Pre-mentrstal syndrome
• Polycystic ovary syndrome
• Menopausal symptoms
• Poor cardiovascular and lymphatic circulation

The treatment

At your first treatment I will carry out a client consultation which gives me a background to your medical history, life style and what you hope reflexology can do for you. From this I can devise a personal treatment plan.

Following the consultation you can relax and enjoy your treatment. You will be reclined in a comfortable treatment chair. During the treatment I will use a moisturising cream and apply gentle pressure to your feet.

After the treatment we will review the areas out of balance and discuss your experience. If appropriate I will make suggestions or recommendations based on the findings. You may feel drowsy and experience tingling sensations, feel energized or even emotional – these are all normal reactions and indicate that the treatment is being effective.

When you get home it is important to drink plenty of water as Reflexology increases your circulation and in doing so flushes out toxins, this could mean you experience more trips to the toilet than usual!

Most clients experience a deep, refreshing sleep but the following day you may notice what is known as a “primary reaction”, these are completely normal and temporary responses. These responses may include an increase in perspiration, strong smelling urine, a break-out of spots, a headache or even flu-like symptoms. These are signs that the toxins are working their way out of your body. If you experience anything that causes you concern, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I will follow up most initial consultations 48 hours after your treatment to ensure your are feeling well and reassure you if you experience a healing crisis.

It is important to note that Reflexology does not diagnose conditions or claim to cure, this is the domain of medical specialists. However, many health professionals are happy for Reflexology to be used alongside conventional medicine as it can play a valuable part in your treatment.
